Miyazaki Moment: Spirited Away (of the literal variety)

Oh, wait. You’re not Haku.

When I was little, Callan (from kidthemongoose.tumblr.com) and I would go in my backyard and pretend that we were in the Hayao Miyazaki movie, Spirited Away. Each of us would play the same role with the same semi-boyfriend, just with different names; I would have their Yubaba-given names, Sen and Haku (the latter being invisible when we were playing), while Callan would have their rightful names, Chihiro and the Kohaku River Spirit. To this day, I believe I got the better end of the deal. (I mean, for the few hours that I played, I’d rather have the better boyfriend name than a better name myself. It’s not like I’d be hearing my name from an invisible guy.)

Even now, Haku is a character that always moves me; not only is he amazingly wonderful, but he can change into a DRAGON. How awesome is that? Imagine just being like, “Honey! I have to go to the grocery store!” and BAM– your significant-other transforms into a dragon, ready and waiting to take you to your desired location. No problemo.

(Wait, I’m not the only one who’s obsessed with having a dragon spouse… Am I?)

So, of course, today’s make0pera had to be inspired by Haku’s dragon side. If you haven’t seen the film or you just forget what Haku’s dragon side looks like, click this magical link to see a picture of him.

As always, if you want to read about make0peras or Hayao Miyazaki and all that jazz, the creator of these fantastic films, click this wizardly button.

Oh yeah, just to tell you, the Spirited Away looks are not created to be wearable by any standard measures (or by mine, for that  matter). Just FYI.

To be honest, the look doesn’t photograph that well; in person, the colors have more depth and sparkle.

Also, let me know what you think of product lists in the poll below!

Whether you’re awkward, awkwarder, or you want a dragon-husband,

  1. Hehe I see that you are doing good buddy, lot’s of good articles. It would be good for you if you could invest in some ads you know, your Google rankings would be better probably. If your budget is tight, try to find other blog owners in similar niches and exchange links. Your blog looks like something that can do it big, it would be a shame if the people don’t see it 😉 Have a nice day
